This is a painting of Nutclough Woods (“Nutt Clough”) by 19th century painter John Holland.  Diana Monahan of Hebden Bridge has given us the following information:

“… we think he sat to paint at the upper dam SD99731 27632. The hillsides and skyline seemed to match well near there and you can see remains of the walls built across the stream – see attached photograph. I wonder if these walls were a “Slow the Flow” type of feature?”
